Global Movement Archive

Popular movements contribute to changing society connecting local, national and international level. There is a need to systematically deveop knowledge on the experience of popular movements globally.

Global Movement Archive is an idea to gather historical and current material on popular movements and present them to the public. All interested people are invited to contribute as well as organisations.

The main core of the work is suggested to be a working group set up by internationally organised popular movements with rank-and-file activists and a broad social interest. Support can be asked from institutions and groups committed to search for knowledge on popular movements.

As a starting point key historical documents like the inaugral address when the 1st International was established 1864, the Zapatista plan from 1910 or The Declaration on the Third World in Human Environment from 1972 can be published on the web. This together with todays statements from demonstrations at Summits, Peoples’ Global Action or World Social Forum and key strategic documents from trade unions, Via Campesina, World March on Women, Friends of the Earth, War Resisters International, Attac and similar movements.

Contacts have been made with some international popular movments. A first mapping of popular movement interested resource centers on all continents have been made. Links and a short description on different resource centers can be found at the interactive website http://www.motmakt.nu/folkiwiki/index.php/Global_Movement_Resources.
